Phenomenological Analysis of the organizational Cynicism in government organizations

Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to conduct a phenomenological analysis of organizational Cynicism in government organizations. This study was exploratory in nature and aimed to expand knowledge regarding the pathology of organizational numbness in government organizations. Therefore, the study is of a qualitative type and falls into the category of developmental research. The research field consisted of experts, employees, and managers of government organizations. Purposeful sampling and snowball sampling were used to select participants for in-depth interviews. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect information. The content analysis method according to Brown and Clark (2006) was used to analyze the interviews. The results showed that 3 levels of factors and reasons: individual, managerial, and organizational were introduced as the main reasons for organizational Cynicism. At the level of strategies and policies to deal with organizational numbness, 16 strategies were introduced, and finally the consequences of organizational numbness were identified at 4 levels: individual, job, organizational, and social.
